Notre Dame Lands Shembo

Charlie Weis has recruited a Badger, a Shaq and a Fox. Now, you can add Prince to that list.

Prince Shembo, a 6-2, 232 pound, 'hyprid' linebacker out of Charlotte, North Carolina, committed to the Irish Monday afternoon, bringing Notre Dame's 2010 commitment list to 14. He made his pledge known via phone call to Weis and assistant coach Corwin Brown early Monday morning.

Shembo picked the Irish over an offer list that included Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Virginia, Wake Forest, West Virginia, North Carolina and North Carolina State. He also received interest from Florida State and Boston College.

Listed as a weak side linebacker, Shembo will likely stay at that position in college, or even move over to the strong side, due to his pure athleticism and knack for making the big play.

Rivals.com gives the Charlotte Ardrey Kell standout a four-star rating, while Scout.com awards a three-star mark.

Tim Prister of IrishIllustrated.com offers this bit on Shembo:

"Shembo represents himself as a Notre Dame-type young man with athletic upside and versatility. He seems to be the perfect fit for the Sam linebacker position in Jon Tenuta’s 4-3 scheme. At that position and in that scheme, he is a stand-up outside linebacker, but can put a hand on the ground in pass-rush situations, much like current projected starting Sam linebacker Darius Fleming."
