Notre Dame Receives Second QB Verbal

Competition for a future open position tends to bring out the best in young players. And when you're fighting for the position of Notre Dame quarterback, you better bring it on every throw, or someone else will step in, and quickly pass over you.

Lake Forest (IL) quarterback Tommy Rees must have a knack for competition, as Scout.com reported that he verbally committed to Notre Dame Tuesday morning, joining Cincinnati Elder standout Andrew Hendrix on the 2010 quarterback committment list for the Irish.

Rees, a 6-3, 195 pound, pro-style quarterback, picked the Irish over two major offers, Tennessee and Stanford, as well as a host of MAC schools.

The impressive aspect of Rees' commitment is that the Vols and Cardinal do not have a quarterback signed for the 2010 class, meaning Rees could have been the number one guy at either of these two schools. Instead, he picked the Irish, knowing when his time comes, he will battle with Hendrix for the prestigious position.

Rees becomes the 11th committment in the 2010 class for the Irish, and Rivals.com rates him as a three-star prospect.
